# Swift Sneak Enchantment in Minecraft: What It Does and How to Use It

_Published October 16, 2026_

Swift Sneak adds 15% of normal walking speed per level while sneaking — a rare leggings enchantment found only in Ancient City chests.

Swift Sneak makes sneaking almost as fast as normal walking — one of the rarest enchantments in the game to actually obtain.

## What Swift Sneak actually does

Each level increases sneaking speed by 15% of your normal walking speed. At level III, that's a substantial, very noticeable speed boost while sneaking compared to vanilla's famously slow sneak speed.

## How to use it

Swift Sneak is purely a quality-of-life pick for anyone who sneaks often — around ledges, warded/sculk areas (where sneaking avoids triggering sculk sensors), or just general building. The real obstacle isn't deciding whether you want it — it's getting it at all: it only comes from ancient city loot chests, at roughly a 23.7% chance per relevant chest, making it genuinely non-renewable and one of the harder enchantments in the game to acquire.

## Well-known builds that use it

Swift Sneak is the one leggings-specific pick on [The Ideal Leggings Enchantments](/guides/ideal-leggings), alongside Protection, Unbreaking, and Mending.
