Quick Charge cuts a crossbow's reload time — its single biggest weakness compared to a bow.

What Quick Charge actually does

An unenchanted crossbow takes 1.25 seconds to reload. Quick Charge reduces that by 0.25 seconds per level:

  • Unenchanted: 1.25 seconds
  • Quick Charge I: 1.0 seconds
  • Quick Charge II: 0.75 seconds
  • Quick Charge III: 0.5 seconds

At level III that's a 60% faster reload than unenchanted — it doesn't touch damage, accuracy, or how many arrows are used per shot, purely the wait between shots.

How to use it

A crossbow's slow reload between shots is its defining tradeoff against a bow (which has no reload at all, just a draw time). Quick Charge directly attacks that weakness and never conflicts with anything else a crossbow can take, so there's no real reason to skip it on a crossbow build.

Well-known builds that use it

Quick Charge III is the shared third of both crossbow builds in The Ideal Crossbow Enchantments, alongside either Multishot or Piercing plus Unbreaking III and Mending.

Frequently asked questions

How much faster does Quick Charge III reload a crossbow?

An unenchanted crossbow reloads in 1.25 seconds; Quick Charge III cuts that to 0.5 seconds — a 60% reduction, and the fastest reload the enchantment can reach.

Does Quick Charge affect damage or accuracy?

No — it only affects reload speed. Damage, accuracy, and how many arrows a shot uses are untouched by Quick Charge at any level.

Does Quick Charge conflict with Multishot or Piercing?

No. Quick Charge stacks freely with either Multishot or Piercing, plus Unbreaking and Mending — it's part of both standard crossbow builds, not a fork.
