Blast Protection reduces explosion damage specifically, at a higher rate than plain Protection gives against explosions — plus it cuts the knockback an explosion throws you with.

What Blast Protection actually does

Each level reduces explosion damage by 8%, up to 32% at level IV — double plain Protection's 4%-per-level rate, but only against explosions specifically. It also reduces knockback from explosions by 15% per level.

How to use it

Blast Protection is a situational swap-in for plain Protection when you know you're about to face heavy, repeated explosion damage specifically — a Creeper farm, TNT work, Wither fights, raids with Ravagers. Outside of explosion-heavy content, plain Protection's broader coverage is the better default, since Blast Protection does nothing extra against melee, fall, fire, or projectile damage.

Well-known builds that use it

Not part of the standard Ideal Helmet/Ideal Chestplate builds, which use plain Protection for its broader coverage — Blast Protection is a deliberate swap for a dedicated "Creeper farm" or explosion-heavy armor set.

Frequently asked questions

Is Blast Protection better than Protection against explosions?

Yes, specifically against explosions — 8% reduction per level vs. Protection's 4% per level. Against anything else (melee, fall, fire, projectiles), Blast Protection does nothing extra while plain Protection still helps.

Can you have Blast Protection and Protection on the same piece?

No — they're mutually exclusive, along with Fire Protection and Projectile Protection. Only one of the four at a time per armor piece.

Does Blast Protection reduce explosion knockback too?

Yes — 15% knockback reduction per level, on top of the damage reduction.
