The Ideal Chestplate Enchantments
September 16, 2026
The chestplate carries no slot-specific enchantments at all — no head, leg, or foot category applies here — which makes it the simplest piece of armor to get exactly right, and a good first piece to enchant while you're still learning the anvil.
Protection IV (or a specialist swap)
Same fork as every armor piece: general Protection, or one of Fire/Blast/Projectile Protection if you know exactly what fight is coming. All four are mutually exclusive with each other.
Thorns III
Reflects a percentage of melee damage back at attackers, stacking with any Protection variant since it lives in the general armor category rather than competing with it.
Unbreaking III + Mending
No exclusions anywhere in this list, so a chestplate with Protection IV, Thorns III, Unbreaking III, and Mending all at once is entirely legal — the whole build in a single anvil sequence.

Protection IV
Thorns III
Unbreaking III
Mending I
Because there's no fork to think through, the chestplate is the cheapest and fastest "first fully-enchanted armor piece" to get right — a good template to copy across your whole armor set before you specialize the helmet, leggings, and boots further.
