The Ideal Boots Enchantments

Boots carry the most slot-specific enchantments of any armor piece, and the biggest one — Depth Strider vs. Frost Walker — is a genuine playstyle fork.

Depth Strider III vs. Frost Walker II — pick one

Depth Strider removes underwater movement penalties, making swimming as fast as walking on land. Frost Walker instead freezes the water you walk over into temporary ice, letting you cross oceans and lakes on foot without ever getting wet. They're mutually exclusive because they're solving the same problem — moving over water — in opposite ways: go under it quickly, or walk on top of it. Frost Walker is generally better for overworld travel; Depth Strider is better if you're actually building or fighting underwater.

Feather Falling IV

Reduces fall damage sharply with no real downside and no exclusions — there's no build where you'd skip this.

Soul Speed III — needs a second pair

Soul Speed boosts movement speed while walking on soul sand or soul soil, at the cost of extra damage taken while standing on it without the enchantment countering that. It's treasureOnly (loot/bartering/villager only, never a table roll) and, notably, competes for the same boots slot as Depth Strider/Frost Walker in practice — most players keep a dedicated "soul sand valley" pair of boots with Soul Speed instead of merging it into their main set.

Unbreaking III + Mending

Standard pairing, compatible with every combination above.
